Tiz the Law Gallops to Victory in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga
Tiz the Law gallops to victory in the Travers Stakes for his final prep before Derby, which was moved to the first Saturday in September.

Under a confident ride by Manny Franco, his regular rider, Tiz the Law broke well and pressed the early leader “Uncle Chuck” a Bob Baffert West Coast shipper. Uncle Chuck was previously undefeated in 2 starts and was highly regarded as the next Arrogate. Things didn’t turn out so well for this rising star who gave way in the final 1/4 mile as Tiz the Law was hand ridden as he galloped by in a powerful display of speed and class.
Trainer Barclay Tagg has carefully scheduled his starts leading up to the Travers and now onward towards the Kentucky Derby trail this September. This well built New York Bred by leading sire Constitution was purchased from the Fasig Tipton Yearling Sales at Saratoga for a bargain price of $110,000 by the well liked owners and partners of Sackatoga Stables, led by the charismatic Jack Knowlton.
Jockey Manny Franco showed his class and respect to the owners for allowing him to guide this talented muscular son of Constitution and early favorite to win the Derby. The final time in a breeze for the 1 1/4 distance was a very quick 2:00. 95 seconds for the route and complete annihilation of a group of leading 3 year-old colts.
Finishing in second was Caracaro, the lightly raced son of Uncle Mo, who was coming off a win in the Peter Pan stakes for trainer Delgado Gustavo. Ridden by Hall of Fame rider Javier Castellano, who was trying to win his record 7th Travers. Maxplayer, the brilliant son of Honor Code completed the triple in the Runhappy Travers stakes.
This Tiz the Law’s 7th winning 8 starts and is still undefeated as a 3 year-old. His only setback came on an off track at Churchill Downs, home of the Kentucky Derby.
