Mister Luigi Wins Easily in Debut at Laurel Park

Mister Luigi Wins Easily in Debut at Laurel Park

Mister Luigi a recent sales graduate from the July 20 OBS auction, this impressive winner circled the field around the stretch turn as female jockey Katie Davis took control of the race with Mister Luigi. Having to go 4 wide heading into the stretch before drawing away to an easy 3 1/2 length win under a strong hand ride.

This powerful colt is by the 2004 Horse of the Year sire Ghostzapper out of the 6- time winner Getback Time, who amassed earnings of 384K during her successful career in California.

Owned by Lugamo Racing and trained by Salomon Sanchez, this classy bay colt was purchased for the bargain price of just 14K after running a quarter in a respectable :21.2 at the Ocala sales in July. For those of you who have been following my Auction 20 Short List from all three major auctions for 2 year-olds, this was my 4th winner.

Mister Luigi rewarded my backers handsomely as he paid $13.40 for the win. Lugamo Racing received instant dividends as they collected $18,810 for the victory in race 3 at Laurel Park. Time for the six furlong sprint was 1:11.54 as Mister Luigi went unclaimed while earning an Equibase speed figure of 73.

Katie Davis comes from a family of jockeys. Her father Robbie Davis, now turned trainer, was an excellent rider in New York. Brother Dylan Davis is having his best year finishing with 17 wins at the recent Saratoga meet. Older sister Jackie Davis riding at Delaware, Parx, and NYRA has accumulated 678 career wins to date.

In other racing news, Speeding, the Into Mischief filly who finished third in her debut on the turf, is entered on the dirt at Gulfstream.

Scheduled for race 6 going 6 furlongs on the dirt on September 18th, 2020. Speeding drew a favorable outside post position number 5 in a field of 10 in this 68K maiden special weight for 2 year-old fillies.
