Stellar Performance by Herwaze beating Traffic to win by 8 1/4 Lengths
Herwaze by the speedy Cross Traffic stallion out of Earthly Reserves, gets her first win in an impressive 8 1/4 length victory at historic Saratoga Racecourse. Trained by Dermot Magner, the former assistant to Todd Pletcher, Herwaze was making her first start on the dirt after displaying speed on the turf in her previous race. Guided by jockey Luis Saez, this stunning gray filly showed her enormous ability in mid-stretch as she extended her lead with every stride.
Owned by KimDon Racing, LLC and developed by the ever patient Dermot Magner, this New York Bred filly showed her dominance carrying 124 lbs. as the high-weight in a race originally schedule for the turf. Time for the race was 1:52.69 for the two turn 1 1/8th distance on a surprisingly fast track, a day after a super storm pounded the grounds with heavy rains and high winds.

I’ve been following this strikingly gorgeous filly since being privately purchased from the breeder days before entering the sales ring. Originally trained by Hall of Fame trainer Christophe Clement, Herwaze did not respond well to her vigorous training routine as a two year-old.
Owners Donnie and Kim Orenstein made a quick and wise decision to switch barns to Dermot Magner. Under Dermot’s expert supervision, the team decided to send Herwaze back to Ocala for the Winter until she gained weight and filled out nicely into her large frame.
I can’t be more thrilled for my good friends at KimDon Racing for allowing me to be part of their journey. Winning with their first thoroughbred purchase and breaking her maiden at Saratoga by 8 widening lengths deserves a great dinner at the Wishing Well indeed.
My sincere congratulations and best of luck to you and Dermot on a magnificent training feat. I’m extremely excited for her future with many more visits to the winner’s circle.
