Monomoy Girl Sells for $9.5 Million Dollars to Spendthrift Farms at the Fasig Tipton November Sales.
The talented chestnut daughter by Tapizar and two time winner of the Breeder’s Cup Distafff, will stay in training and return to trainer Brad Cox as a 6-year-old in 2021.
Formerly owned and campaigned by Dubb, M., Monomoy Stables, LLC, The Elkstone Group, LLC (Stuart Grant) and Bethlehem Stables LLC, Monomoy Girl completed a perfect season going 4-4 and overall win record to 13 wins from15 starts bringing her career earnings to $4,426,818.
Having missed all of 2019 due to major issues, Monomoy Girl returned to the races in an allowance race at Churchill Downs on May 19 before capturing the Grade 2 Ruffian stakes at Belmont Park in 2020. The Distaff marked her 7th Grade 1 victory over 6 different racetracks in her illustrious career.
Her lone setback was by a neck to Road to Victory in the Golden Rod stakes at historic Churchill Downs when she ran very green in the stretch.
Her other loss came via disqualification to the wonderful Midnight Bisou in the 2018 Cotillion. Once again, Monomoy girl ran green in mid-stretch as she impeded Mike Smith aboard the valiant Midnight Bisou.
The two fast fillies posted their best Beyer of 118 in the Cotillion, featured in the photo with Brad Cox and her handlers.
In other news, Monomoy Girl’s Dam Drumette by Henny Hughes just sold for $1.85 million in foal to Mastery in the same auction at Fasig Tipton today.
Midnight Bisou, who retired earlier this Fall due to injury while preparing for the Breeder’s Cup Distaff, sold for 5 million dollars to existing part owner Chuck Allen who bought out his partners during Fasig-Tipton November ‘Night of the Stars’
